Leather five ways // Leggings

My ultra comfortable Helmut Lang leather leggings are the stars of the fifth installment of my series Leather five ways, that kicked off earlier this week (check out Part 1 // Shorts, Part 2 // Jacket, Part 3 // Jacket restyled and Part 4 // Waistcoat).

Some tips when you buy leather trousers: Go for a stretchy pair of leggings with an elasticated waist or a snug pair with belt loops, as leather expands a lot with wear. If you buy a wider pair, like the tracksuit bottoms that are currently in fashion, ensure that the elasticated waist hugs you well and possibly has a drawstring, so they won’t fall off after a few days’ wear.

I love to play off the roughness of the leather with something feminine, so I paired my brushed leather leggings with a pale pink silk blouse and a Chanel-inspired jacket. This jacket is a vintage find from Copenhagen, and though I thought it was Chanel at the time of purchase and the jacket tries really hard with its Chanel label, the buttons are dubious (the C’s are swooshy at one end) and the expected quality isn’t there. Still, I love the colour and the unravelled edges, so I can play along with the jacket’s Chanel illusion and wear it with my head held high.
