You know when the pile of clothes that you have worn only once but are not yet dirty is starting to pile up, and you wonder what to do about it? Well, one solution is to make an outfit out of them, like I did here. Normally, the things in my “half used” pile don’t go together at all, but this time I was really lucky and managed to make a decent outfit of the contents of said pile. A big hurrah for recycling!

The pig face(!) necklace that I am wearing with this outfit is one of my favourite pieces of jewelry, as it is so unique. At my hotel in London, I suddenly discovered to my horror that I no longer had the necklace around my neck. I had to trace back what I had been doing that day and remembered that I had tried on a blouse in & Other stories – I must have left it behind in the dressing room. I immediately went online and found the phone number of the store and gave them a call, and don’t you think they had found the necklace and was keeping it safe for me! I was so happy not to have lost my necklace that I sounded like a crazy person when I went to pick it up, rambling on about how much the pig meant to me.

I’ve only lost a couple of pieces of jewellery in my lifetime that have meant a lot to me, but I hate it when it happens. One such lost piece is an amber and gold plated necklace I bought at a vintage market in London about ten years ago. I refuse to believe that the necklace is lost forever – I am sure that one day it will pop up in a pocket or a handbag and I will keep my faith in this for at least five more years!

Have you lost any pieces of jewellery that meant a lot to you and if so, what were they?

  • Love this outfit! A few years ago I went out for dinner on my birthday. I changed out my normal diamond stud earring that had been a gift from my sister and tucked them away “somewhere”. I didn’t think about them for a few days and after awhile I realized I didn’t remember where I had put them. Two years later getting ready to move I was going through some boxes and in a tiny bag in another smaller box were the earrings. I was so happy as I had really thought they were gone forever.

What a great story! My amber necklace is still lost, even though I went through all my handbags when I recently organised my closets. I’m thrilled that my pig came back to me, though, and am now checking and rechecking that I have all my belongings with me when I leave a hotel room/friend’s house/mum’s house/the bus, etc.
