Happy thoughts

{1} New year = new adventures –

I always get very excited at the start of a new year. It’s like getting my hands on a new sketch pad or note book — lots of blank pages to fill in with whatever tickles my fancy!

For me, last year was full of changes — I quit my job, sold my flat and bought a new flat in Oslo, a city I’ve wanted to live in for years. 2015 is going to be yet another exciting year, as I’ll find my dream job, settle down and reconnect with old as well as find new friends — and I’ll search for a boyfriend. I can’t wait to get started!

{2} Healthy meals

As much as I love traditional Christmas food, chocolate and red wine, it feels great to take a step back from all the calories and cook some healthy paleo meals again. Strangely, all my clothes seem to have shrunk over the holidays. Did that happen to you as well?!? I will need to work out hard in the next couple of weeks to get back to my good, old self. Some yummy paleo meals will do the trick!

{3} Happiness

For Christmas, my dear friend L gave me this sign and I just love this saying! Previously in  my life, I’ve always worked towards achieving happiness at some point in the future, dangling it in front om me like a carrot — a new boyfriend, a better job, an exotic holiday or a healthy body would come along as long at some point as I put in the hard work. I felt exhausted and unhappy, never reaching my goals.

Last year, I decided to create more happiness in my every day life, just like the sign says. I’ve become a much happier and more content person because of this and I strongly encourage you to shift your focus as well!

While you still need those bigger plans to guide your life and your career, you need to make your heart sing for just a few minutes every day to feel motivated to work towards those bigger goals. There are so many things you can do to create a bit of happiness in your day, depending on what you enjoy, from dancing to your favourite tune to building a sand castle. Just don’t put off doing all these smaller things you love because you are too tired or don’t have the time, because at the end, you will never have the time to do anything happy and you will feel exhausted.

So today, postphone doing the dishes or the grocery shopping and take your kids — or yourself — outside and play in the snow instead. I promise that it will be worth your while!
