{1} Easter decorations

This year, I finally got around to decorating for Easter and the flat feels so colourful and springy! At the weekend, I made golden Easter eggs — watch out for a post on how to make them later today! — which together with last year’s colourful eggs, really liven up the livingroom. The eggs also somewhat take the focus away from all the handbags and shoes that are lying about the place, waiting to be sold online…

{2} Boyhood

I finally got around to seeing the film Boyhood at the cinema, and boy(!), was it a great film. It is filmed over the span of 12 years and follows the boy Mason as he (quite literally) grows up from the age of six to 18. We see how all the changes that happen with his family (reconnecting with is father and his new wife, his mother’s career and relationships) affect him and mold him into the young man that he is. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette do a really great job of playing his parents — she received an Oscars as Best Supporting Actress for her achievement. Run out and see if it’s still at a cinema near you or make sure you catch it when it goes on telly later this year. You won’t be disappointed.

Another great film that I saw this week was Still Alice, where Julianne Moore, one of my favourite actresses, plays Alice, a university linguistics professor being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s already in her fifties. Being a master of words, the film does an amazing job at explaning the dreadful experience getting this disease is not only for the family, but also for the person who is sick and starts losing her language and her thoughts. Bring tissues, as the film made tears roll down my cheeks more than once.

Two great films, both about life as it is. Nothing fancy or otherworldy, no violence or cheap jokes. Just life. Beautiful.

{3}  Cooking

Lately, I’ve been having a lot of fun in the kitchen trying out new and old recipes. It’s a relief whenever this happens, as I go through periods when I find neither cooking nor eating much fun — everything that I cook tastes blah. But nothing has tasted blah these last couple of weeks and in particular a batch of Indian fajitas were delicious. Expect some great recipes to come your way, aka on this blog, this Easter!
