When I wore this outfit to the cinema* last night, my friend commented that I was giving off some serious biker vibes, very different from my usual more classic looks. Since moving to Oslo, I’ve noticed that I often dress more rough and masculine than I did in Bergen. It might be my current job situation, where I don’t really need to dress up, or I might be influenced by the cool street style here in Oslo, where you find a more diverse range of people than in smaller Bergen. Whatever the reasons, I thoroughly enjoy playing with different styles and outfits, and I don’t mind looking like I just parked my Harley one day and a librarian the next! Fashion is all about having fun, while also reflecting your mood or an image on that particular day.
Truth be told, I didn’t specifically go for a biker vibe yesterday, but was in a rush to get ready and wanted to be comfortable in the slightly warmer weather, hence the leather jacket. Once the sun went down I realised spring is quite a few weeks away, though. Brrr!
In yesterday’s post, I listed three of the items that I believe belong in a basic wardrobe — a white shirt, dressy trousers in a dark colour and a cashmere sweater in a colour your love. Today, though channelling a very different look, I’m wearing another three wardrobe basics; A pair of flattering jeans, a leather jacket and a pair of booties. While my basics are a little rough around the edges, more classic and dressy versions of these garments will work equally well. The length of the jacket and fit of your jeans should suit your body type and personal taste — I searched hard and long before I found this long leather jacket in my size and it will most likely stay in my wardrobe until I’m too old to get dressed by myself.
* I saw the film Kingsman and was very disappointed. Though initially funny, it became much too violent for my liking. Where’s the fun is blowing up people’s heads so they look like marshmallow coloured atom bombs or having a mother attack her child with a meat cleaver?!?
