A Taste Of Crete
Now I’m sitting in the shade by the hotel pool, enjoying a G&T and looking through the photographs from the first couple of days here in Crete. We are staying in a hotel one minute from the beach just outside Chania, in Agia Marina. At 44, this is my first ever beach holiday and though I’m not keen on all the fellow Scandinavians, menus with pictures of the dishes and waitors who speak Norwegian, I love the relaxing vibes of a beach holiday. I really needed to get out of my flat and reconnect with my mojo, and 30+ degrees, sunshine and good company is doing the trick!
The first couple of days have been spent sunbathing on the beach and bouncing around in the Aegan ocean — the waves are too big for swimming, so we’ve been jumping into the waves like kids. My hair is a constant mess and I’ve got sand and seaweed in my bum. We always run out of clean towels and we try to taste every tart drink they serve on the island. It’s 25 degrees at midnight and we’re competing about who’s got the most insect bites (for the first time in my life, I’ve lost. Our bug bites are about 3 cm in diameter and itch like CRAZY. I’ve only got about five to scratch, my friend 15).
On the first beach day, I wore my new favourite dress from H&M, also worn on a sunny day back in Oslo. But you probably can’t concentrate on my gorgeous dress because of my insane beach hair! You’ d think men would drop you a hint when you walk around looking like a troll, AT LEAST when they’re taking your photograph!
