Currently we only have about two hours of daylight here in Oslo and when I say daylight, I mean a greyish flat light that rather than wakes you up, makes you want to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea and the latest InStyle. Fast forward to about 3:30pm and it’s pitch dark and I’m are ready for bed.
The lack of proper daylight not only makes me tired, gloomy and sad, but also makes it really hard to take photographs! I’m counting the days until the sun turns on December 22nd, and each day gets a few minutes longer until June/July, when there’s only 3-4 hours of proper darkness each night. Summer makes for pretty photographs with blue sky, flowers and a tan, while now we’ll just have to make do with some quick shots on the balcony before the light disappears.
So what to do when the weather makes you tired and the temperature drops below zero C? You pull out a bright coat and lots of wool, and bundle up like a polar bear. I did exactly this on Wednesday, heading into town for my friend’s choir’s Christmas concert.
This outfit is probably not everyone’s cup of tea — with the cropped trousers, thick socks and rough boots, I look quite masculine. To balance out the butchness, I added brighter colours on top, which I think brings a more feminine element to the outfit. I also like how the mint green sweater pops agains the purple coat. But most of all, I like how the outfit kept me warm and comfortable. You can also count on over 100 people, lots of candles and some accomplished song birds to thaw even the coldest of bones.
Happy Friday, everyone!
PS // If you, like me, easily itch when you are wearing wool (blend) trousers, I recommend that you wear a pair of nylon leggings underneath. I swear by the cheap leggings from H&M, which come in different thicknesses and lengths.
