Make Your Own Gift Tags

Tall Girl's Fashion // Make your own gift tags

In last week’s Christmas DIY I showed you how to make easy and chic Christmas cards. Today it’s all about those pretty gifts tags.

Last Christmas I made some pretty simple, yet pretty gift tags made with white paper, pattern scissors and a Christmas sticker. This year I’m giving you three more options. Since gift tags are so small it’s the perfect project to make use of those little scraps of ribbon and paper that are left over from making Christmas cards.

Heart on heart gift tags

The silk ribbon that holds together this cute gift tag doubles up as the ribbon that ties to the gift. Clever, right?

Cut out one large and one smaller heart either from  your templates or using hole punches. If desired, trim around the edges with pattern scissors. Make a mark about 0,5 cm down from the v in each heart and make a hole. Slip a piece of silk ribbon through the holes, make sure the ends are equally long and tie a double knot in the v to hold in place. Tie a knot at the top to close the loop. Optional: Trace around the edges of the larger heart with glitter glue.

Christmas tree gift tags

These cards are easily made using a tree hole punch, which is available in different sizes and shapes at the craft store.

Single hole punch

String

Cut out a Christmas tree with the hole punch or by using a template. The silhouette is created by using the hole left in the paper by the hole punch and trimming around this leaving a 0,5 cm edge. Using pencil and ruler, cut a piece of background paper to fit the tree. Trim around the background with pattern scissors, if desired. Glue the tree onto the card. Mark where the hole for the string should be and punch a hole. Tie a piece of string in the hole. If desired, use a paper doily to add further dimension to your gift tag.

Simple heart gift tags

This is a quick and easy option for when you are in a bit of a hurry and want a small tag. It’s perfect for using those little scraps of paper that are left over from other projects.

Cut out your heart and measure and cut a piece of background paper to fit. Cut around one or both shapes with pattern scissors. Glue the heart onto the tag. Mark and punch a hole for the string. Finito!

I plan to use a gold pen to write the greeting in the back of these gift tags. If you want a fancier option, the craft store has to/from stamps and ink pads that you can use.

Happy crafting!
