Brown Suede Jacket Styled 3 Ways
In addition to last Wednesday’s new blog series From wishlist to reality, today I’m starting a series in which I style one garment, accessory or trend in three different ways.
The aim is to inspire you to experiment with your closet and get as much wear out of your clothes as possible. And we all love when people ask us if we’ve got new clothes on and we can just reply: “No, I’ve just styled them differently!”, right?
The three outfits I’ll be styling are Work, Party and Casual and the post will appear on a weekly basis.
The first item I want to give more mileage is the brown suede jacket. Suede is really big this winter and will also be huge for spring. If you already have own a similar jacket, go wild and experiment with styling it different ways. If you don’t, consider investing, as they are very versatile and will become a classic in your wardrobe that you’ll wear for years to come.
My military-inspired jacket is about 14 years old, bought at 50 % off from a highstreet chain store. I believed I paid about Nok 400 ($50) for it, and it’s definitely written off by now if you go by cost per wear! There are lots of great options available in the shops right now that are of great quality and don’t cost a fortune, so check out your favourite store. Here are a few from international chain stores:
Option 1 // Vero Moda brown suede jacket (available in 4 colours), Nok 799,95 ($100)
Option 2 // Mango brown suede jacket (available in 3 colours), Nok 699 ($88)
Option 3 // H&M brown suede jacket, Nok 1.299 ($163)
// WORK //
Banana Republic purple printed blouse and grey trousers // Unknown brand brown belt // Anya Hindmarch black handbag // Airstep black booties // Isabel Marant golden necklace // Snø of Sweden golden earrings // DyrbergKern golden/amethyst ring
If your work environment is more on the casual side, you should be able to get away with wearing a leather jacket with this cut to work. To keep it professional, I paired the jacket with a printed silk blouse in muted colours (also worn in this work outfit) and grey trousers.
The outfit would also look good with black trousers and a similar blouse. I’d just keep the colours muted and more in the neutral direction, to make the outfit work appropriate.
// PARTY //
Zara printed black/purple silk dress and embellished black/gold suede clutch // Unknown brand grey tights // Billi Bi black booties // H&M brown belt // Snø of Sweden golden earrings // Isabel Marant golden necklace // See by Chloe golden cuff // YSL golden ring
To get ready for a party, I wore a flowy silk dress in purple and black under the jacket. The brown belt gives me a good shape and ties in nicely with the jacket. I chose grey tights because they looked more chic than black while they also picked up the colour in the dress. To add some extra umpf, I piled on gold jewellery and a gold sequins clutch.
The jacket will also look great with a green dress underneath, of you want to keep the outfit calm and classic. If you want more contrast, go with a bright fuschia dress, a colour that works really well with brown.
// CASUAL //
Lindex dotted black/white blouse // Gina Tricot coated black jeans // Airstep black booties // Mulberry white handbag // Unknown brand gold necklace // Accessorize golden studs // Komono golden watch
For my casual look, I wanted to create a chic outfit with a certain French vibe and teamed the jacket with a black dotted bowtie blouse and black coated jeans. The colours are all neutral, which makes the look both classic and on trend. And who says neutrals are boring, right?
Another classic look would be to team the jacket with grey jeans and a grey (patterned) top, or maybe shades of green. Camel trousers and a beige top would also be chic.
And now comes the moment of truth: Which outfit is our favourite?
I really love the party styling, as I think the silk dress flows so nicely under the jacket and the gold accessories add glamour. Which of the three outfits is your favourite and why? I’m dying to know!
PS // Do you have a garment or accessory that you’d like me to style next in this series? I’m up for the challenge!
